The three major market

The three major consoles on the market are in a constant dispute by getting the leadership, although some of separating them from other times when it comes to the maximum period of these sales are re-match.

Xbox 360 (usually abbreviated 360) is the second desktop video game produced by Microsoft, was developed in collaboration with IBM and ATI. Its Xbox Live service allows players to compete via online and download content such as arcade games, demos, trailers, TV and movies. The Xbox 360 is the successor to the Xbox, and now competes against Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.

Its main characteristics is its CPU based on an IBM PowerPC and its GPU technology that supports the Unified Shaders. The system incorporates a special port for adding an external hard drive and is compatible with most devices with USB through its USB 2.0 ports. The accessories of this system can be used on a personal computer, such as steering wheel controls and the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 was released officially in the television channel MTV on May 12, 2005 and the launch dates were disclosed in September that same year at the festival of videogames Tokyo Game Show. It is the first console to provide an almost simultaneous launch in three main sales regions (Europe, Japan and the United States).

Since the launch in 2005, there are four models of which three are on sale (Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox 360 Premium and Xbox 360 Arcade). The console has had good market in North America, Europe and other regions of the world (excluding Japan). On April 25, 2008, Microsoft has managed to sell 19 million consoles, according to official figures.



Wii is the sixth desktop video game produced by Nintendo, developed in collaboration with IBM and ATI. The Wii console is the direct successor of the Nintendo GameCube. Currently competes against Sony's PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 from Microsoft as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.

The most distinctive feature of the console is its wireless remote, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a handheld device with that aim, in addition to being able to detect the acceleration of the movements in three dimensions. Another of its peculiarities is what has been called WiiConnect24, which allows you to receive messages and updates via the Internet on standby. Finally, the Wii can be synchronized with the Nintendo DS handheld console, which allows the Wii console will seize the touch screen of the Nintendo DS.

Nintendo spoke for the first time the console at the press conference of E3 2004, but it was not until 2005 when the E3 is shown to the general public. PlayStation 3 (usually abbreviated PS3) video game is the third computer produced by Sony Computer Entertainment, was developed in cooperation with Asustek, Toshiba, IBM and Nvidia. The PlayStation 3 is the successor to the PlayStation 2, and now competes against the Xbox 360, Microsoft and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.

The main distinguishing characteristics of this system are its Blu-ray reader and its microprocessor called Cell. It also features an HDMI port that has a resolution of 1080p and is compatible with most devices with USB through its USB 2.0 ports. It also has an internal hard drive and two types of controls (DUALSHOCK 3 and Sixaxis) technology-based motion detection.

PlayStation Network is the Internet service that gives support to the PlayStation 3, where you can download movies, games, demonstrations and firmware updates to the console. Another aspect impotante, the team has the ability to become a personal computer, thanks to development kits for Linux.

Since its launch, Sony has managed to sell 14.41 million consoles, however this figure has been widely outpaced by rivals Microsoft with its Xbox 360 (although it does have one more year) and Nintendo with its Wii.
